What are Cateracts
Cataracts are the leading cause of visual loss in adults 55 or older. A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens inside your eye. This lens, located behind the iris, works just like the lens of a camera – focusing light images on the retina, which sends images to the brain. The human lens can become so clouded it prevents light and images from reaching the retina.
Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is an extremely common outpatient procedure, performed by our doctors at the Mohawk Valley Eye Surgery Center (conveniently located next to our offices). The procedure itself takes approximately 10-15 minutes, is painless, and is a non-invasive surgery. Patients receiving cataract surgery will need someone to drive them home, as they will be given a small dose of anesthesia for comfort.
